State of Iowa Kicks-Off AMANDA Implementation for Professional Medical Licensing

IowaDes Moines, Iowa - The State of Iowa recently kicked off an AMANDA implementation to handle licenses for three professional boards. Within 12 months, the Iowa Dental Board, Iowa Board of Medicine, and Iowa Board of Nursing will be using AMANDA to manage:

  • Initial Licensure,
  • License Renewal,
  • Permits,
  • Continuing Education,
  • Complaints,
  • Investigations,
  • Disciplinary Cases,
  • Probation Monitoring,
  • Iowa Practitioner Review Committee (IPRC) Reporting,
  • Iowa Physician Health Program (IPHP) Reporting,
  • Verifications, and
  • Fee Tracking.

A kick-off event was held on September 21, 2009 and was attended by the three boards' executive sponsors, project managers, IT personnel and subject matter experts.

When the implementation is complete, the system will replace separate legacy systems employed by the three boards. Beyond integrating all three boards' licensing systems, AMANDA will allow Iowa to integrate with their State Background Check System, Nursys (a national system for nurse licenses), and an e-payment interface. Additionally the Iowa Board of Nursing will integrate AMANDA with their Integrated Voice Response system.

This AMANDA implementation will give the State of Iowa the ability to reduce processing time for applications, convert from paper based processes to electronic methods, and provide 24/7 access to services as part of their efforts to become more customer driven and customer friendly.
